Emma Lawn completed her franchisee training and started her business in Harrogate. We asked her to tell us about her journey so far.
I attended a food festival in Harewood and walked into the children's cookery tent where Kiddy Cook were delivering workshops. The two ladies were extremely friendly and the idea of working with kids outside of a classroom really appealed to me. I contacted the franchise last October after a lousy day doing supply teaching and the rest is history!
No. I was not clued up in business. I did try to set up by own textiles business but I found myself more focused on the product than the marketing/selling myself and it flopped very quickly. I'm also a people person so I like to feel support around me which was another reason why I liked the idea of a franchise - always knowing that there is someone who has done it before that you could ask for help /guidance from.
I'm a qualified secondary school teacher but to be honest, primary kids are a different kettle of fish so Nikki was great, covering and then revisiting any areas I felt unsure of until I felt ready to start.
Amazing support! I feel like I have had my own personal 1 to 1 mentor. I couldn't have done this by myself. Even though I still work part time in a secondary school, I couldn't/wouldn't have ever got as far as I have done without the continual support that I have received. Nikki goes over and out of her way to make sure she is supporting everyone. Even my mum has taken her words back and said I made the right choice!
Wow! It started quickly then dipped, and in the last month it's rocketed. I still haven't got the schools on board like the other franchisees but I love it. I'm glad I decided to do it and I'm eager to do more. I didn't think I would take on any class leaders for a few years but I've been going since the end of Jan and I'm ready for extra help!
DO IT, TAKE THE JUMP, ITS GREAT, very satisfying and actually fun!
I am very happy that I took on a Kiddy Cook franchise - it fits in with my family and work balance lifestyle.Kate Faulkner, Kiddy Cook North Staffordshire
At the end of my first financial year I turned over £16,000. At the end of my fourth financial year (April 2014) I turned over approximately £50,000, which I am thrilled with.Frances Webster, Kiddy Cook Norwich
