Stuart Hall age 40 lives in Stockton-on-Tees. Stuart has been the Principal of Razzamataz Durham since April 2012. He is married with a baby daughter.
I was a secondary school teacher, which I enjoyed but found it a massive pressure with the incredibly long working hours. My wife did some Internet research on franchises and found Razzamataz and then remembered them from Dragons’ Den.
I’ve acted both professionally and performed stand up comedy. I have a degree in Drama and Writing and Publishing.
Yes I did but to be honest I didn’t really realise that there were these sorts of opportunities out there. I wanted to run my own business but with the option of leaning on someone when needed, which is just what Razzamataz provides.
The brand is so strong and with all the merchandise already there it gives you a really professional business from day one.
You are everything from being the HR department to the head of creative, which means that you have to juggle a million things at once. It is not a normal 9-5 so sometimes I have trouble switching off and doing something else!
Be as prepared with everything as possible and do as much ground work as you can. Take it slowly in terms of changing things because you won’t resolve any issues overnight. Don’t be two disheartened when students leave but definitely keep in touch with people who have made enquiries but not joined up. I have had a few students join recently who made enquiries on our launch day but hadn’t got round to joining.
I don’t tend to have set days that I devote to certain areas. I work from about 10am to 7pm and typically plan different jobs within that time frame.
