Jenny Sexton: New Career with Baby Sensory

Jenny Sexton, from Southend on Sea, Essex, discovered Baby Sensory when she was looking for ways to help her baby son Finley to develop. Finley was born 7 weeks premature and Jenny was determined to give him the best possible start. Her research helped her to identify Dr Lin Day’s Baby Sensory programme. Unfortunately for Jenny the closest classes for her were in Bexley, Kent a round trip of 70 miles including the Dartford Tunnel.

Baby Sensory franchiseUndeterred, Jenny visited a class and immediately decided to sign up to attend classes every week. Jenny had been told that premature babies do catch up with their development generally between 12 and 18 months. Finley was 3 months old when she started to attend Baby Sensory and by his 9 month check up he was doing everything expected of a 9 month old. Jenny and husband Steve were delighted.

Faced with a return to work in the city and the necessity to leave Finley, Jenny decided to set up her own business. The obvious choice was to make the Baby Sensory programme available to families in her area so she procured the rights to run the programme throughout most of Essex, the equivalent of over 10 Baby Sensory franchises.

Jenny launched her own Baby Sensory classes in the Southend area in October 2009 and was an instant success. In her first week 83 families signed up for her Baby Sensory classes and by the end of her first 3 month term she had 160 babies registered to attend her classes every week. The growth has continued, mainly driven by word of mouth as parents in the area have heard about Jenny’s classes.

After 9 months Jenny started to look for other people in her region who would run excellent Baby Sensory classes and in January 2011 Tonia Long, Shelley Jones and Gemma Bohr started running Baby Sensory in Billericay, Brentwood and Chelmsford respectively. In June 2011 Tamsin Scott launched in the Rayleigh area. Jenny has recently secured three further franchisees who will attend the Baby Sensory training programme in April and start running their own classes during 2012.

Jenny’s success has been recently rewarded by winning the ‘Excellent Customer Service’ category in the Southend Business awards 2011, run by The Evening Echo. Jenny says “I was absolutely thrilled to be a finalist in this category let alone go ahead and actually win! When my customers heard that I was a candidate for the award, many came forward with amazing testimonials about my classes and I am sure these will have been taken into account by the judges.”

Jenny plans to have Baby Sensory classes running throughout Essex during the course of the next 2 years and also to launch Dr Lin Day’s Toddler Sense programme throughout her territory so that customers can enjoy the development benefits of the programmes throughout their vital first three years.
