Teaching Kids to Reach Up and Grab a Ball

Catch-A-Balls have developed a simple fun game which is called apple picking! This might not sound like a good catching game but really it has a great purpose.

The aim is to to encourage the children to look up, reach up and take the ball at the highest point they can. Think about the game of netball, and as many mothers will testify those who jump and stretch up for the ball are the ones who got it!

So, with budding netball players in mind Catch-a-balls is always keen to encourage children to reach out for the ball. They have several activities to do this and being seasonal this is the time to go apple picking.

Plastic apple at the ready (most have teeth marks after one or two games!), attached to a ribbon by velcro. The adult holds the apple above the child’s head, the children have to reach up and grab the apple with both hands and pull it off the ribbon.

Once they start to get the hang of the distance and stretching the adult starts to move around so that the child is then having to organise their feet as well. It’s a simple but effective little game.

What Our Franchisees Say

I believe that introducing children to the world of sport & healthy living at a young age is the first step towards them seeing sport as fun & part of a healthy lifestyle, not just something they are made to do at school.
