Investing in franchising after redundancy: Yvona made her life more bright and beautiful

Being made redundant once was a blow but Cambridge-based project manager, Yvona Brandstatterova, found it hard to bear a second time and decided to find a safer route into the world of enterprise using her redundancy payouts and franchising. In February 2013, she visited The Franchise Show at ExCel in London to find out more about what type of franchise she could invest in.

Yvona explains:
"I’d chosen to buy a franchise as I felt it would be a safer route to start up a business. I liked the fact I’d be a part of a bigger network with all the support and advice available. Walking around the show, I could see there was over 100 franchises to choose from but Bright & Beautiful caught my eye."

Bright & Beautiful provide a holistic housekeeping service. They don’t just clean your house, they pride themselves on providing a quality of life to busy people. The service is very comprehensive with a focus on high quality standards, eco-friendly products, professional and friendly behaviour, fully trained and uniformed teams who become 'managers' of people’s homes. They tailor the service to clients’ needs which can include things like letting a dog out for a run whilst the team are looking after the house.

Yvona adds:
"I spoke to Rachel Ray, the founder of Bright & Beautiful, at The Franchise Show and quickly realised that it’s values matched mine perfectly and I really liked the fact that it supported lots of professional women and mothers in becoming business owners who then go on to create jobs locally."

Yvona spent more time after the show talking to Rachel and took the decision that Bright & Beautiful would be what she invested her redundancy payout in. Prior to launching her Bright & Beautiful franchise in May 2013, she completed an intensive training course led by Rachel and a team of franchise development consultants.

Yvona continues:
"Becoming a franchisee has changed my life. I have become a lot more resilient, resourceful and determined to achieve my goals. Running a business can be very testing but the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction when I read our client reviews and when I see my team feeling proud of what we’ve achieved is something I’ve not felt in any of my jobs.

If someone is thinking of buying a franchise then I’d recommend that they visit The Franchise Show this February. I’d advise them to research their shortlist of franchises thoroughly. If you like a particular franchise, speak to the franchisor and existing franchisees. Consider what the best and worst case scenario could be and how you’d deal with them. Read a few books about franchising and starting a business and always get legal advice on your franchise agreement.

My plans now are to grow the business and become the largest and best professional housekeeping service in Cambridge."

Rachel Ray will be running one seminar each day of The Franchise Show at the ExCel in London on Friday 19th & Saturday 20th February 2016.
