Fireman to put out the heat in the kitchen with business launch

A retired firefighter turned entrepreneur will be changing his focus from putting out fires and saving lives to taking the heat out of one of the most loathed household chores, as he starts out in business with Ovenu.

Ian McLean, who served as a firefighter for more than 20 years at Gatwick, is now the owner of Ovenu Crawley & East Grinstead, an environmentally-friendly oven valeting service.

After reading about the retirement of the firm’s previous owner, Dave Khor, Ian, from Crawley, relished the opportunity to become his own boss and take on the challenge of running his own business.

Ian McLean said:
"I am delighted to be fulfilling one of my ambitions to become my own boss, which is going to be a big challenge but one that I am looking forward to. As soon as I read about the retirement of Dave, I immediately got in touch because it provided an exciting opportunity with a well-known, established brand.

With the support of my family and friends, as well as a strong franchise network behind me, I am confident that I will succeed in creating a thriving small business. I am now excited to start building a rapport with my loyal customer base and look forward to building on Dave’s excellent reputation."

Ovenu Crawley & East Grinstead offers its environmentally friendly oven valeting service to homes and business in Horley, Crawley, East Grinstead, Forest Row, Haywards Heath, Burgess Hill, Horsham, Storrington, as well as Redhill, Reigate, Dorking and all surrounding towns and villages.

Rik Hellewell, Managing Director and Founder of Ovenu, said:
"Ian’s drive and determination to succeed will put him in good stead as he embarks on a new challenge with Ovenu Crawley & East Grinstead. I am delighted that Ian is fulfilling his dream to become his own boss, and I would like to wish him all the very best with his business."

The Ovenu valeting process involves dismantling key components of an oven such as the door, interior panels, fan and shelves and placing them into design-registered tank equipment, which uses safe, non-caustic products to clean the oven parts. The whole process takes around three to four hours and leaves the oven, hob and exterior in immaculate condition.
