Before she had left her first Speed Dating event in 2004 – Susan Constable just knew what she wanted to do with the rest of her working life. She had been so taken by her first experience of Speed Dating that she knew instantly that she wanted to run similar events on behalf of When the Music Stops.
There was just one small problem – at the time When the Music Stops was not a franchise business and didn’t have what she wanted on offer. That didn’t stop Susan’s enthusiasm however and by ‘bending the ear’ of Mike Parker, When the Music Stops Managing Director, within a few months Susan had purchased the fore runner of today’s franchise proposition and had given up her job at Royal Bank of Scotland to run her new business.
Almost 6 years down the track, Susan is now When the Music Stops longest serving franchisee and is still regularly running highly successful Dinner Parties, Speed Dating Events and Singles Party Nights in her exclusive Midlands area.
Says Susan: “I enjoy speed dating events most of all, because it’s always so intriguing who gets together at the end of the evening – I have always been a bit of a matchmaker for people I know and this is just the dream job as a consequence of that. But I also love a nice dressy occasion and so I do enjoy the dinner party’s too, I try to organise them to a very high standard and that hard work behind the scenes does pay off – particularly when there is some chemistry around the table and two people meet, that can be so pleasing for me and I get a real buzz from that aspect of my work.
As an example I introduced Robert and Carolina in 2007 and they’re still together today – just one of dozens of my successes” She continued: “For Mums it is also a brilliant franchise for fitting in around your other commitments – my son Mark was only 11 when I first took on the franchise and now I have a Grandchild too, who is Brooklyn aged 18 months. The other great thing is that Xanthea my eldest daughter has now come into the business too, which I’m very proud about. Xanthea specialises in running the younger events, which gives the franchise an extra dimension too”
So it is a franchise that has appealed to Susan over the years, it’s one that she still has considerable enthusiasm for and one that she gets a lot of satisfaction from. So the $64,000 question has to be would she recommend it?
“Oh yes – and I have done to many people over the years, it has worked very well for me and I’m now just about to undertake my training for our new Matchmakers product, it’s all free within When the Music Stops, which is brilliant – so yes I’d say go for it and come and join our growing team”
