Steve Letley lives in Southampton and joined Expense Reduction Analysts in April 2010. Steve explains why he joined Expense Reduction Analysts, and how he found the whole process.
Joining Expense Reduction Analysts “I had worked as a personal tax manager for a large firm, and felt I was in need of a change.
I was becoming increasingly frustrated at the amount of personal time I was putting in, just to keep up to date with all the rules and regulations –it got to a point where I was doing a lot of work just to stand still. I knew that I wanted an exit from the tax industry completely, and had looked at a few options , but I realised that I wanted to be part of something which was more of a white collar business.
I met John Allison the Chairman of Expense Reduction Analysts at a franchise show and was instantly attracted to the value proposition on offer –I was particularly excited about the idea of not having to do any selling.
I went through the due diligence process, which is where I got to look at the goals for my business and make sure that they were realistic for the amount of time I wanted to put in.
I was also able to speak to anyone I wanted, and I spoke to a few consultants .
One of the consultants from the network invited me to spend the day at their practice, the fact that someone was willing to take a day out of their schedule and spend it with me was amazing.
I spent some time talking to a few of my own contacts from within the accountancy sector, and they were genuinely impressed with the value proposition; of going into a company and helping them generate additional profits –they were not sure how that could be bettered!
I was nervous at the beginning –but the training was really intense and I left training every day reassured in knowing that I had made the right decision.
I respond better to hands on training –so I was really excited when I was given a test project as part of the training programme.
For the first time in ages I am outside of my comfort zone, which could be extremely daunting, but I feel supported by the network especially as the network is all about sharing information, both successes and failures so that as business owners we don’t make the same mistakes twice.
I have also joined the utilities team as through discussions with Group Office, it became clear that a specialist was needed for the South of England.
I’m sure I am not the only one, but when you are an employee you find ways to drag your feet, especially during long meetings about tax reform!
Since I have joined Expense Reduction Analysts my mindset has changed as it’s my business, which really drives me to go that extra mile and perform to the best of my abilities. Nothing gets you out of bed like being your own boss!"

My twin brother Paul was so enthused by my success that he ended up giving up his job and becoming an Expense Reduction Analysts franchisee himself!
