Sara’s love of jewellery is making her £25,000 in a year.
A passion for jewellery has led Sara West to a nice little earner. Sara, a mum from Weybridge, Surrey, has been an accounts administration manager for 20 years.
“It’s fairly demanding and I was looking for a way to reduce my hours so I could spend more time with my 10-year-old son William yet still earn a decent living,” Say’s Sara “I used to buy jewellery from a lady at my local school – I love jewellery and spend a lot of money on it. I found out last year that she had set up a franchise operation. This seemed like an ideal opportunity for me as I already knew and loved the products. I signed up in August 2006 and launched my new venture in September.”
Sara spent around £10,000 on setting up her Silverdaze franchise. It included stock, display kit, marketing tools, personalized stationery, a manual and full training. “I did look at other franchises but there wasn’t another silver jewellery one and nothing else really appealed,”
“I liked the idea that the whole package was sorted, it wasn’t a scary investment if things didn’t work out and the training and back up were impressive. I spent a few days training, learning about the stones and where they come from, how things are made and how to do small repairs.”
“This suits me down to the ground. I’ve reduced my hours at work and can now pick William up from school and spend more time with him – that’s fantastic!”
“I sell the jewellery in the evenings, usually around two nights per week. In less than a year I’ve achieved a turnover of more than £25,000 – not bad for a part-time business.”
“I really enjoy the selling too, getting out and about, meeting people and pleasing myself when I want to work to fit in with my family life.”
