What is it like being a Catch-A-Balls coach?

Kathryn has been a Catch-a-balls coach for nearly 4 years in Claygate and Teddington and says it is a fantastic opportunity to work with children predominately term time based which suits her family commitments.

Catch-A-Balls - CoachKathryn has a daughter aged 9 and a son aged 7, both at primary school. She took a career break nearly 4 years ago (from working in shipping / oil training for over 14 years!) to enable her to spend more time with the children and to become more involved with the local school. She helped with school fund raising as a PTA member before becoming a parent governor.

Kathryn says:
"It is so rewarding to see the children with a smile on their face and achieving so much however big or small. They love the variety of equipment that we use, from balloons, scarves, hoops to colourful streamers and beanbags. Our lessons are well structured but above all fun. We aim to incorporate some catching, throwing, balancing and we even find time to look at colours and numbers."

Kathryn says about her Catch-a-balls coaching role:
"The coaching is well structured with comprehensive lesson plans but with flexibility to decide what works particularly well with each class. Each child is unique and we are able to spend time individually getting to know them and their parents /carers.

The satisfaction with the job really comes down to seeing the children grow both in their 'sporting' ability but also in the confidence to try new things and make new friends. The difference you see in each child being able to follow instructions and focus even after a couple of weeks is amazing.  It is such a rewarding job and the children being a smile to my face every class."
