Talking Tots - Jane ParkerWhy did you choose franchising?

I really wanted my own business but did not know where to start setting up so a franchise was the best way for me to run my own business.

What did you do before taking up a Talking Tots franchise?

I have been a dancer and actress in earlier days and IT Manager and trainer.

What in particular attracted you to Talking Tots?

I really wanted to work with pre-schoolers and I recognise how important good communication skills are as my little one has struggled and TT has really helped him to build his vocab and communication.

What do you enjoy most about running your Talking Tots business?

I love seeing the little ones develop their skills – its fantastic the 1st time a little one comes up for their sticker on their own!

What Initial Training and support did/do you receive from Head Office?

Lots of training to run the classes and telephone support when needed. Lisa and Tracey are very supportive and do help with some great suggestions when I’m stuck.

What Challenges have you faced so far?

Filling classes – its very hard at 1st!

What might a typical working day involve?

Drop of little one at pre-school and dash to 1st session of the day. Have a great time with my little ones and then pack up and dash round the corner to teach two back to back nursery sessions with lots of fun – I’m known to the children as the Yellow Ball Lady! Dash home for lunch and catch up on paperwork, enquires, planning, update Facebook and twitter and then pick up pre-schooler and playtime before bed! Catching up in the evening with other franchisees and preparing for the next days worth of classes!

What advice would you give to someone considering buying a franchise?

Be aware that its hard work getting going – although you don’t have to create the classes you still need to work really hard to get them going! Also be a little silly little ones love it when you make a mistake.

What is your greatest achievement to date?

My aim was to run 9 sessions per week and this term I achieved that! Just need to keep working hard to keep it that way!
