Countrywide Signs Franchise

Alan Edmonds left retailing to start his own business with Countrywide Signs

24th July 2014

When Alan Edmonds found Countrywide Signs he jumped at the chance taking on the Leeds and Bradford territory.

Alan Edmonds was a retailer for 12 years when the franchise he worked for closed down. Alan  decided on a change of direction and took the opportunity to look into becoming his own boss. He investigated the franchise marketplace, weighing up his options.  When he found Countrywide Signs he jumped at the chance taking on the Leeds and Bradford territory.

Countrywide Signs - Alan EdmondsI chose to take on a franchise because it gave me a proven route to becoming my own boss. After working for 12 years with one company I felt that I could really benefit from the support and backing Countrywide Signs provide, especially in the start-up process. I was concerned about the current climate and the Countrywide Signs business opportunity gave me the security and confidence that my business would really work."

Alan is based in Lancashire, 20 minutes away from his Countrywide Signs territory that covers Leeds and Bradford. He lives with his wife and 18 year old son. His 23 year old daughter has now flown the nest!

Being his own boss has meant that Alan can now spend more quality time with his family. He has also had more flexibility to find time to enjoy his two favourite hobbies; golf and football, which was almost impossible in his previous retail role.

Alan was initially attracted to the Countrywide Signs owner operator van franchise as he was keen to roll his sleeves up and build his own business. He was also impressed by the way the business model guides franchise owners to grow their business into a management operation.  The professional approach of the head office support team in Newmarket confirmed his decision and he went ahead with the investment in April 2012.

Alan has started solo with his first van and plans to follow the business model and develop a multi-van operation where he would move into a management role.

"If you are thinking about a franchise I recommend shopping around. Take the time to decide what you want to do first. It’s important to find the right one for you.  The recruitment process was great; Dug, the franchise consultant, was extremely helpful.  This was important to me as I needed the guidance in the early stages. Everyone is different, but as far as I’m concerned, I made the right decision; Countrywide Signs was the best choice on the market for me."
