Hydro-Dynamix has changed the face of carpet and upholstery cleaning. Its unique system uses the latest American truck-mounted technology to meet its customers' cleaning needs.
A Hydro-Dynamix franchisee since late June this year, Adam Tester is an extremely contented man. At 28 he is, by his own admission, very happily married and running a business that in its first three months has boasted an average turn-over of £4300 per month. 
So what led Adam from working as a chargehand for Safeways plc to taking up a franchise with Hydro-Dynamix? "Five years ago, for 18 months, I used portable cleaning machines for a cleaning company. The first time I saw a demonstration of the Truck Mount I couldn't believe how thoroughly it carried out the work." "All the bad points about portable machines, for example re-filling, low vacuum, wet carpets and hard physical work were overcome ten-fold with the Truck Mount. I was also taken with the fact that the team at Head Office who started up the franchise were genuine - they started off, like me, with one Truck Mount and have expanded to franchise the concept nationally."
Adam admits the support he receives from the Hydro-Dynamix team is second to none. Not only has he received assistance in finding work but also training on an ongoing basis. "I have gained confidence using the Hydro-Dynamix 15 day training programme over my first three months. I learned more in one week about carpet cleaning that I did in the 18 months I was working for the previous company." Almost five months later Adam has settled comfortably into his new business. He employs an operative to help him carry out the cleaning work and his wife is due to join him in the business full time, to help out with the operations and marketing. Adam currently has one truck-mounted vehicle in operation and another one joining in January, but Adam's five year plan is much more ambitious.
"My expansion programme involves having six vehicles on the road within the next five years," he explained. "I realised from the start the vast capabilities of this system and the numerous applications it can be applied to, and so far I haven't been disappointed." "This business is not only about carpet cleaning, the system is capable of so much more. Since I started I have cleaned canopies, driveways, vehicles, carpets and upholstery."
So Adam is optimistic for the future, the business is running smoothly but the burning question is, does he enjoy running his Hydro-Dynamix franchise? "The simple answer is Yes," Adam enthused. "I am part of a team. I can work as hard as I want and all the rewards come back to me. The job satisfaction is brilliant. I now get out of bed in the morning knowing that there is a bright future ahead for everyone involved."
"My favourite benefit is the independence of running my own business, but working within a team that has the same goals and values - including our Head Office. I see myself having multiple vans on the road, taking control of their work but also staying involved in the cleaning itself and, of course, picking up the money - as this is what gives me the greatest buzz." And with Adams business increasing by 30% every month, it certainly seems like the future is going to be quite a buzz.
